101 Years of Service, Scholarship, Leadership, and Legacy.
The Historic Psi Omega Chapter / Foundation continues to make an impact that extends far beyond our membership. From awarding $20,000 in scholarships to deserving CSRA students, to mentoring the next generation and strengthening our community, we remain committed to uplifting those we serve.

Psi Omega Chapter has been serving the Augusta area for over 100 years since 1925. We are proud of our Community Service, providing High School Seniors with scholarships, Fatherhood Mentor Programs, Social Action, Talent Hunt, NAACP, Voter Registration, Health Initiatives and College Endowment.
As a 501c3 non-profit organization, we have been able to contribute
over $200,000 dollars in assistance to the community.

The Psi Omega Chapter was established August 9, 1925.
Psi Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi: A Legacy of Excellence and Service
The Psi Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is known as ‘The Mother Pearl’ of Augusta, Georgia. Chartered on August 9, 1925, it holds the distinction of being the first Black Greek-lettered organization established in the city. The idea of forming a chapter in Augusta was first conceived in 1923 under the advisement of Vice Basileus John W. Love and Grand Keeper of Records Campbell C. Johnson. Recognizing the fraternity’s expansion and the presence of a thriving institution like Paine College, Brother Thomas Hargrave of Beta Chapter saw the need to establish a graduate chapter in the city.
On September 26, 1924, the Supreme Council approved the formation of the chapter, officially naming it Psi Omega. The chartering process was initially led by Brother L.E. Redmond (Beta Chapter, 1920), but due to business obligations, he had to leave Augusta in early 1925. Despite challenges, Brother Thomas Berrien of Beta Chapter took over the initiative and successfully completed the setup of Psi Omega by mid-1925. He was assisted in initiating new members by Dr. A.J. Kendall of Delta Chapter, 8th Grand Basileus Harold H. Thomas, and ten brothers from Atlanta.
The Founding Brothers
The nine charter members of Psi Omega were distinguished professionals who laid the foundation for a legacy of excellence:
A Rich Legacy of Leadership and Service
Since its inception, Psi Omega has initiated over 70 lines and hundreds of brothers, including prominent educators, pastors, doctors, lawyers, dentists, business leaders, civil rights activists, coaches, military officers, city officials, and judges. The chapter has consistently served as a pillar of the Augusta community, organizing and participating in numerous programs that focus on social activism, scholarships, health initiatives, mentoring, STEM education, and collaboration with the Divine Nine.
Throughout its 100-year history, Psi Omega has hosted numerous district and state meetings, as well as various Achievement Week programs. Notably, one of the fraternity’s founders, Edgar A. Love, attended and participated in these events. Psi Omega also holds the distinction of initiating Georgia’s first Black state representative, Brother Robert Church, in 1937. Additionally, it remains the only chapter in Georgia with its own fraternity house.
Guided by the fraternity’s core principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift, Psi Omega continues to make a lasting impact on its members and the broader community.

The Miss Omega Scholarship Project was the brainchild of Brother George I. Bryant, Sr. When the proposed activity was first presented, the idea was not immediately embraced by the senior members of the chapter. However, Brother Bryant was soon joined by Brothers Isaiah Washington and Robert E. Blount. Together, they sought and gained the support of Brother James E. Carter, Jr., who was highly respected and influential among many of the older chapter Brothers.
With their collective efforts and support, the project was accepted, and the Miss Omega Scholarship Program was officially instituted in the spring of 1949.
In 1974, under the leadership of Brother James L. “Luke” Walker, the Omega Mardi Gras was initiated as the chapter’s culminating activity. Since the inception of this project, hundreds of young men and women have received scholarship assistance from the proceeds of this outstanding program.
